Black History Month 2022: Arlene’s story
October 19, 2022
October is Black History Month. It is a time to celebrate, educate and raise awareness of the African and Caribbean culture across society. Throughout the month, colleagues across Golden Lane Housing (GLH) have been celebrating Black History Month by sharing links to interesting articles and will be taking part in a quiz at the end of the month, with the chance to get involved in an open discussion about Black History Month and the themes and awareness it raises.
Arlene Morrison is an Allocations and Voids Officer at GLH. She has kindly shared her family’s story, about how they came over from to live in Manchester from St Kitts in the Caribbean. Click here to read Arlene’s story
Arlene said: “I am so proud of my heritage and culture and firmly believe that it has had a positive influence over the years and continues to do so today. For me, the UK is richer for having different diversities which we can all enjoy and learn from.”
Thank you Arlene for sharing more about your heritage and culture, and what Black History Month means to you.
We’d love to hear how you’ve been celebrating Black History Month. Please send in any pictures to us on social media—make sure to tag in GLH:
