Golden Lane Housing marks National Safeguarding Adults Week (15 November – 21 November)
November 15, 2021
Golden Lane Housing is marking National Safeguarding Adults Week this week by giving staff the opportunity to attend a virtual session on Golden Lane Housing’s It Matters approach to safeguarding.
The session will be hosted by Becky Arrowsmith, head of housing and deputy safeguarding lead at Golden Lane Housing, and Kathy Smith, housing officer and safeguarding champion. It will give staff the opportunity to refresh their knowledge of GLH’s safeguarding approach and how the organisation is working to create safer cultures, and to ask any questions they may have.
Between 1 April 2021 and 9 November 2021, Golden Lane Housing raised a total of 34 safeguarding alerts to local authorities, with the majority of the alerts raised being for concerns around self-neglect.
Becky Arrowsmith said: “The wellbeing of our tenants is at the heart of all the work we do. Safeguarding is at the forefront of our minds all throughout the year, not just during National Safeguarding Adults Week. We want our tenants to live happy and healthy lives and to feel safe in their homes, and we want them to know that we are here for them and will do everything we can to listen and to help keep them safe. As part of their roles, our housing officers and in-house repairs team, Resolve Solutions, have regular conversations with tenants and will look out for any signs that may be a cause for concern.”
“We also want all of our staff, including those who do not work directly with tenants, to feel confident in raising any safeguarding concerns they have- no matter how big or small they may seem. All new staff members receive safeguarding training during their inductions and staff have regular refreshers to make sure they are updated with the latest procedures and contacts.”
“We are further developing our It Matters approach which makes sure our tenants remain at the centre of everything we do and that their voices are heard throughout all of the policies and procedures that are in place.”
