For the first time, Golden Lane Housing (GLH) tenants from the More Voices, More Choices committee attend the board and executive teams’ annual strategy day – also known as Making Plans Day – to give their input into what GLH should focus on in its future plans.

Stephen Smith, Tessa Bolt and Kashaf Hussain delivered a presentation to the board members and executive team, telling them what matters to tenants the most. Following the presentation, they joined groups and talked about their own experiences as tenants and what they think GLH could do to improve its services.

Kashaf Hussain said: “I really enjoyed coming to the hotel. I really enjoyed the presentations. It was really amazing. I want to make it better for people around the country to get houses. I want people to have more support and I like getting involved to help more people get things like repairs. I love doing more, it’s really interesting.”

John Verge, chief executive at GLH, said: “Our tenants are GLH’s eyes and ears. Their voices are vital to us being able to deliver high quality services and to know where and how we can work to improve them. I’d like to thank Stephen, Tessa and Kashaf for their powerful presentation and fantastic ideas. These will be taken forward and we will be seeing how we can put these into practice.

“It was brilliant to be able to also speak to them about their personal experiences as GLH tenants and to find out more about them. These conversations are so important because all of our tenants are individuals with different needs, and so the more voices we can listen to, the more we can improve our plans and services to make them as personal and accessible as possible.

“Tenant involvement is key to our work and we embed it in our processes wherever we can and are always looking for new ways we can increase involvement and make sure that is has an impact.”
